As anticipated, Reputation hit Spotify, Apply Music, Google Play, Tidal and the other key platforms for a midnight release staggered around the globe, with subscribers in New Zealand and Australia getting in early.
Reputation arrives for the first time on streaming platforms having chalked-up impressive early sales. The album blasted to the top of the charts around the world after its Nov. 10 retail release (physical and download formats only), and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 1.238 million equivalent units for the year’s biggest week for any album (its 1.216 million traditional album sales in week one were the largest sales frame for an album since 2015).
Sales have since cooled off in some markets -- it's holding at No. 1 in the U.S. and Australia but it fell 1-8 on the most recent U.K. chart -- but expect the album to enjoy a chart bump as fans with streaming accounts lock in.
The three-week Reputation window compares with a seven-month gap between the physical/download and streaming release of Adele’s blockbuster third album 25, which first dropped in late 2015 and wasn't available for streaming until June 2016, at which time the set was propelled back into the top 10 of the Billboard 200.
